I have a whirlpool gas dryer that ignites and heats for approx the first 3-4 minutes. I cleaned the exhaust vent completely. I removed the back and watched the flame and after 3-4 minutes the flame went out. Not sure what is going on or what part might be failing. Thanks to anyone with suggestions.

Sounds like you need the gas coils. One of the coils is heating up and opening. I would replace both of them. Give model # if you need more help. Let us know how repair went.read this post with same problem

Pugsl is probably at work and you are probably anxious. I have not had to put on any lately, but they are on the gas valve and are like self-explanatory. They easily come off. I did not need any help or instruction when I did my first ones. If you buy the new ones then you will see what to take off and what to leave on. Like I said, it is something simple and visually self explanatory. I think the coils (spools) slide off the metal rods they are over, once you take wires off the spade connectors, and whatever keeps them onto those rods. So I think, from my memory.

Hello gof2day4lif and Welcome into the Gas Appliances topic.
Replacing the two solenoids (coils) is as easy as mentioned, on most dryers. All one has to be is handy with small hand tools and use some basic cautions. Information and advise below in the link provided.
Be sure to turn off the electrical power or unplug the dryer first. If you have to remove the entire gas control valve, which may be needed, there is a tiny gas shut off valve to the right side if the control valve.
The large hex nut unscrews clockwise,. Opposite the standard thread rotation. Used a back up wrench to hold the inlet pipe in place while unscrewing the nut. And do not forget to check for gas leaks when job is done.
