RCA dvr recorder Model DCR 8040N
Will not run off. Will not eject disc
Red recorder light on
Nothing works.
Unpluged overnight . Same problems when plugged back in.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

I searhed all my sources and can not find any service info at all on it.Some one may reply that has a better source of info for these than me so hang in there.

Are you sure the model number isn't DRC-8040N? If so, it's not a DVR ... it's a DVD recorder, correct?

You could try replacing the DVD drive (most are generic), but refurbished models of that unit are selling for well under $100 all over the net and the online reviews from users are running about 75% negative. That, plus the fact that you already did a "hard reset" by unplugging it, tells me there's something that commonly goes wrong in the firmware.

Yes it is a DVD recorder. Sorry about that.
I thought there might be an easy fix.
I plan on tossing it and purchasing a mew unit. Any recommendations for a good DVD recorder VCR combo (with tuner) unit would be appreciated. I have about 20 more home videos I want to copy to DVDs.
