We lost power during IKE wind storm last week. The power was going to be out longer than the battery would last so I unplugged the battery. The power came back a day later w/o the battery connected.I noticed several zones were showing open.I reconnected the battery, had to tell the system the date and time.My first four zones 1-4 work like they are supposed to.Zones 5-6-7-8 all show open.5 and 6 should be closed and 7 & 8 are not used.I can't get a ready light to arm.I had a power issue 4 years ago and had to replace the battery...I don't recall having any problems with open zones then.Any suggestions?
I have programming worksheets which were never filled out by the installer.
System was monitored but no phone anymore.I'd like to turn of the phone part if possible too.It shows a trouble light all the time.Installer went out of business.
Zone 1,2 and 4 all separate entry doors.
Zone 3 motion detector.
Zone 5 switch on infeed box outside.
Zone 6 switch on back of outdoor siren.
The infeed box and outdoor siren are intact.
Thanks for any help.

There are some things you might want to try/consider =
You should first try connecting the back up battery and leaving it connected for at least 24 hours. If you have any wireless items they may have low/dead batteries. Be sure that all of your doors/windows are fully closed. You may also want to try checking the system for trouble codes. You can use the trouble codes along with the install manual to determine what the system is telling you. You can also buy a telephone/low voltage surge supressor (ELK960) to protect your security system from being damaged from future storms, tornadoes, etc.

I had the battery now hooked up for 48+ hours with no change.
All doors closed,motion detector active.
No wireless devices.
No phone line active anymore.
Trouble code check indicated '8'....system lost date and time, and '3' telephone line trouble.Alarm is a stand alone system now and not monitored anymore.
6 zone system with one item on each zone.2 zones not used for total of eight.

Set your time.
For the telephone line trouble, probably when the dialer was disabled, turning off the Telephone line monitor feature didn't get done.
From the FAQ:
"DSC: Power series panels (632, 832, 864); trouble 3 (telephone line trouble) and/or trouble 4 (failure to communicate) shows on new/defaulted system.
DSC panels default to the communicator turned on, and TLM (telephone line monitoring) turned on. If you will not be using the communicator functions, you have to turn them off by entering programming, turning off option 7 in section 015, and option 1 in section 380."
If you still have hardwired zones showing open and don't have a multimeter to check that the contact is closed, try the simple trick of putting either a jumper or 5.6K ohm resistor (if the system is configured for EOL) across the zone input at the motherboard. If it closes then you may have a bad contact (nearby lightning strikes can fault reed switch contacts either always closed or always open).
It is possible that your doors were aligned pretty close on to begin with, and the wet has warped the door (with it's magnet) just enough away from the contact. Try sticking a refrigerator magnet directly on the magnetic contact in the door frame.

Sorry I haven't had time to repost.
This alarm is at a vacation home and I've been there.
Anyway,I got into section 015 and turned off option 7 then section 380 and found option 1 was already off.
For some strange reason this took care of everything and now the system goes to the ready state for arming.
The reason I say strange is since 2005 when I went from active monitoring to stand alone , it armed all the time with the yellow trouble light lit.It showed a phone line trouble code but armed.
I tried to see what my settings were on the 6 zones I use out of 8 and didn't have any success.
I went into section 001 and it didn't do or show anything. So with the system arming I decided to leave it alone.
What did I do wrong?
Mr Ron and Steve, thanks for your assistance.

It's not that it didn't show anything, the binary display that DSC uses is kinda flakey to read if you aren't used to it.
