Termited

Hello.... I live in England but I believe I have acquired a Termite problem, not very common over here so it seems, though it does happen. I would really just like to be certain, so if anyone could confirm if this picture is actually a Termite with certainty I would appreciate it... and if it is not then what is it!? Though I am pretty sure it is in truth, though they seem quite scattered in nature, they don't hang around together really like the Termites I have seen in South America. I believe these to be subterranean Termites as you would find in southern Spain and alike places. Though I have never seen these other than in my property and on images I have found online so I am not aware of their habits first hand. This though is a picture I took myself the other day.
Thankyou!

does look a lot like termite was it under something when you found it. termites are very light sensitive and do not come out in the light also very sensitive to drought. if it is you will need to have your house treated probably.

Funny you mentioned about the light as I am just trying to get a better photo of one right now and was using a small torch to help focus the camera on it, and it clearly hated the bright light... Hmm.. to be honest I have them running around on many surfaces, I can always find some if I look, they are generally quite in the open, and I do tend to get them on my computers flat screen quite often, one actually managed to get inside it the other day as the it is a clear see through apple display, maybe they like the warmth from it!? ... though I had a few last summer, I only saw one a day at most, and I went to Peru for most of winter and I never saw any when I returned, I assumed the cold weather and no heating on might be enough to finish them off.. though once the weather warmed up they started to reappear, and there have been a lot this summer from absolute tiny to relatively large. Though they only seem to resemble workers, seen no other forms of them... I could easily find and squash 10 in any given minute, there are certain surfaces they seem to have taken to. And on occasions when quiet I have heard knocking/tapping sounds that I couldn't explain coming from corners of this room, read about that, so not sure if it is termites knocking or something less problematic...

if you are finding them out in the open then they are not any type of termite i am familiar with. knocking/tapping sounds could be wood boring beetles or some type of bird hunting for insects.

It's puzzling that you should see workers. It's the swarmers that are usually seen. They can be coal black to pale yellow brown.

Take a specimen to an exterminator for identification. If you find out what you have, please post again.

It appears to me that is a 'Book Louse' or 'Pscoid'. Harmless enough but irratating I'm sure. I can't be 100% but I attached a pic and you can compare. Also if you need treatment there seems to be some good guys from your area on this site. Pest Control Portal - electronic directory for the pest control industry with jobs, training, equipment and products (http://www.pestcontrolportal.com/) Air and light will work fine for some do it yoursel help and a light aerosol of pyrethrum if you need relief. Check out this link for pics and habits. It's what makes me so sure it's NOT subterranean termmites.
