my buddy have a weilmcclain oil burner with reillo burner. the flame going into his burner seems like its way too high, the flame is just about bursting out of the little door on front of the boiler. its even burning the front of the door.

i know a little something about burner i can adjust the air for him but im not sure exactly what too look for in the flame. has has absolutely no money ready to going into foreclosure and cant spend a dime on burner service technician.

what should i look for?

The EXIT sign.

Tony, I know you feel compelled to help your friend. What friend wouldn't ? BUT:

You aren't qualified to help with his boiler. You going in there and messing with ANYTHING on that system makes you liable if something bad happens.

It's a hard truth. If you want to help, fork out some cash to have a qualified technician in to fix whatever is wrong.

I agree. You never know what you'll be stepping in. The nozzle could be too large, or the fire tubes could be totally plugged. Both dangerous situations.
Hands off is the best alternative for you...

In oil burner service the last person who touched it owns it.

It's called flame impingement which is an extemely bad situation for oil and gas burners. The end product is incomplete combustion and generation of lethal CO gases.
