I have 2 brass wall sconces. Both were converted from gas to electricity. Someone decided that it would be "cute or fashionable" to paint them white. Not only do I not agree with that idea, but they did a really miserable job. Now the paint is flecked and ,to say the least, they're not attractive but could be with help.
Does anyone know a fairly easy method to remove the paint without damaging the metal? I would appreciate any suggestions.

Any good paint/varnish remover should do the job. They are not harmful to metal.
Depending on the detail work in the sconces, you may have to "pick' at it a little to get them clean. Toothpicks and/or sharpened (in a pencil sharpener) wood dowels will help.
Many hardware stores/big boxes sell a clear aerosole lacquer that is made for application to brass. This will protect the shine once they are clean.
