I recently decided to install an alarm system in my home. I have a friend that is a licensed burglar alarm technician. He agreed to help me at no charge.
I have ordered all the parts
1)Vista 15 Panel
2) 6160 Alpha Key pad
3) five motion sensors
4) three door switches
5) a wireless keypad
I was busy installing the sensors throughout the house while my friend was installing the panel. It seems when I am finished, there is a problem with the panel or the alpha key pad. The key pad will not accept the programmer's code.
My friend does not know why, but he seems to think the key pad is defective. What should I do now?

Assuming that it's a Vista 15P (the suffix is important), you need to set the keypad to address 16 or it will not be recognized.

It is a vista 15. The problem I have is, the key pad does not recognize the installers code. The key pad beeps when it is powered up, but holding the *+# keys does not get a screen response, and neither does entering the programmers code 4221+800. Is the key pad defective or am I doing something wrong?

If this system is a Vista-15 with no suffix, then it dates from the mid 1990s. In that case, the 6160 keypad is _not_ compatible with the system.

you need to set the keypad to address try 31 when you power up the system hold 1 & 3 then 00 then 31 then ** this may work

OK... You can see why I am a neophyte. The system is indeed a vista 15P.
What does that change? What should I do now?

In that case, the keypad address should be set to 16.
If this is a used motherboard, the default installer code may have been changed, or someone exited programming with *98 instead of *99. You will need to use the power up procedure with * + # outlined in the FAQ to extract the installer code.

Isn't it amazing the friend is a licensed burglar alarm technician
and can't solve the problem? Hmmmmm? Anyway, power
the system down than up and press the 1 and 3 both
buttons both at the same time. Press means push them
down than let go, both at the same time. The LCD (liquid
crystal display) will display the current address that the
keypad is currently addressed. If it's anything different than
16, enter 1 than 6 than *. Your keypad 'should' display panel
info in a couple of seconds. Enter programming as described and
continue your programming of all your devices. Have fun and
good luck.:gmorning:
