a guy at work has a house in northern wisconsin. he goes there 1-2 times a month. he winterizes the house when he leaves, drain water from pipes, turns off heat, etc. he wants tile floors. but he doesn't know how the often changes in temp will effect the tiles. house has a basement (he's not doing the basement)

I would get a porcelain tile and install it using modified thinset. I take it there are wooden subfloors? Gotta make sure that's up to snuf for tile as well.

Need to install it when it's above 50 degrees though.

I would also use Schluter - Ditra (http://www.schluter.com/6_1_ditra.aspx) for when the home expands
and contracts with the temperature change.
