The smoke detector is making sort beep sound around 4:00 am. I replaced the battery. It keeps making the same beeps within the next 10 minute. It is quite now. did I do the right thing to replace the battery? Why it keeps beeping for a while after I replaced the battery? and do I need to replace the smoke detector (it is six year old)?

Some models chirp if the sensing chamber is dirty or out of calibration. If the device is close to 10 years old or older, replace it.
