Use pocket screws instead of biscuits. The screw will pull the joint together tightly.

The mini kreg jig kit (A single jig with step drill bit) is about $20 in box stores. A box of 100 screws is $5. You clamp the jig onto the stile, flush with the end, and drill the hole. Then hold the two pieces together and screw them together. Pocket screws make suprisingly strong frame joints.

I use pocket screws and glue for face frames. Quicker and easier than biscuits.
