I'm hoping that Rick Johnson can pick up this post.

I bought an LG 42LB5D LCD television from a major retailer. They were insistent that I purchase the extended warranty, which I never do, and when I got home, I surfed and found out that there were some motherboard issues with this TV. I was slightly concerned but figured that since this set wasn't on the first production run, maybe the issues was worked out. Not to mention, I trust LG.

A year has gone by and we love the set. I surfed and found no motherboard issues of late but the major chain just sent me a reminder that the warranty is almost up and I'm wondering if there is any word on further problems with the LG sets.

If there is a chance I might have to send this thing back in, I would like to be prepared.

If not?

Life's good.

I'll preface by saying that my company is an LG dealer, but we don't sell retail to the general public. I'm also not an authority on LCD and Plasma brands ... just a fan of LG based on my own experience.

We have had exactly one fail out of the box out of hundreds that have been installed, and that was a very low serial number of a brand new model which was the largest they made at the time. LG made good on it by sending a new one before we sent the old one back.

I've also heard good things about the 100 or so Samsungs that are used in the coaches' booths in NFL stadiums across the country. They are off-the-shelf consumer model 32" and 19" LCD HDTVs. It's been over a year now without a single failure, and in some stadiums these things sit for weeks and months at a time in all kinds of temperature environments with and without power until game day.

Thanks guys. I really like LG as a brand but didn't want to leave any rocks unturned. Not to mention, it feels good to be in solidarity.

We have computer monitors, DVD burners, a fridge, cell phones, and the TV, all by LG. NO worries.

I'm going to throw away the offer, sit back and check out some HGTV in HD.
