I am almost finished with building a plasma tv table. Table is 70" wide, 18" deep and 29" high. I made it out of clear maple and am trying to decide on how to finish it. Would like to darken the color a bit with stain or oil. But would like to try something other than the polyurethane finish. I'd really like to bring out the grain, enhance the color, without the shallack look. Any ideas?

You may attain the finish you want using tung oil. You can try it on an underside to see if the darkening is to your desire. The more you put on, the darker it will get, and oh, the finish! It will take alot of rubbing, so be ready.
