I need to install a 36" diameter wooden, louvered, octagonal vent/window into the gable end of an attic so that our furnace can be moved from an outbuilding to the attic (we have a large single story home). There is no way I can duplicate or replace the wood siding so I have to minimize damage to the outside. Fortunately, I don't have to worry about the inside since the attic is unfinished. The window is one piece but I have to hinge it so that it can be used for access (according to code).
I have the stud, framing and header material but I really need step-by-step directions because I've never done this particular job before. Is there a good soul out there who would take the time to help me?
After this, I think I'm OK with the walkway, base for the furnace, wiring a 240/120 volt subpanel and installing lighting and receptacles. Phew!
Many thanks!
Claudia

Sounds as if you have wood siding. I would remove the siding in the area of the window/vent, starting at the top and go just below where you want the vent to stop, frame out the opening, install the vent and replace the siding, making cuts as necessary to the siding. You will minimally damage your siding, and it will fit just fine.
