New here. Howdy.
I have been landscaping the yard after building a new deck and adding a nice waterfall and large 2x4 planter platforms. I added a few peeler cores that are secured with threaded rod, stained and I thought of looping rope around the tops of the cores to give the area a nautical look. Is there anything that I can use on the rope itself to protect it from the foggy conditions I often get? I was thinking of some clear varnish, or even engine oil to protect the fibers.
Any one have any ideas?

if you are using nylon rope it will last quite a while with out any preservative added, if manila you might try half boiled linseed oil mixed with half turpentine, if poly it will not last more than about 1 and 1/2 years, I don't know of any thing you can put on it to make it last.
