I a have wedgewood gas stove with 4 pilots and would like to convert the system over to an igniter or some other type of pilotless system.
The Stove/oven works great except that it is real hot during the summer to be next to.

I have read some other post (dated 2004) that suggest that its not possible or not worth the cost. I figure I will have to fabercate some part to mak this conversion but I don't know of any valves to part to get.

can anyone offer so help...

If it is possible to do this several things would need to be done.

-Electricity would have to be brought to the range to the range to power an ignition control module.

-Install an ignition control module and electrodes to each top burner.

-Install switches to each top burner valve and wire all together.

-replace the oven safety with a new one and install a hot surface igniter to same.

-retro the electronic components to the oven valve (knob).

Personally, I don't think you would be able to find someone to do this. I once worked with someone who looked into the cost of parts to do this and $750 sticks out in my head. In addition to the cost, there is no guarantee that it will work properly once installed.

Additionally, home fabrication isn't always a good idea when gas is involved. The results can be less than appealing.

I have responded to numerous calls such as yours. The old Wedgewoods and O'keefe&Merrits were made of very heavy chrome plated material and would hold the heat no matter how small the pilots were adjusted. The fix: turn off the pilots and manually light the burners as needed. Personally I wouldn't consider attempting to convert to auto light. Above the cost is just making it work.
