My Craftsman 42” tractor Model # 917.271653 engine 316707-0137-ei was running and started to leak fuel under the float bowl by the fuel solenoid. The fuel solenoid stayed hot after it was parked in the garage for a few days and now it won’t start the battery is dead. Otherwise the tractor runs. I have replaced the gasket for the float bowl and it still leaks. What can I do to fix the fuel leak? Does the fuel solenoid need to be replaced?

Did you replace the gasket between the solenoid and the float bowl?
If you can determine that the fuel is leaking through the solenoid, then you will need to replace the solenoid.

Are you certain the fuel isn't leaking over the top of the bowl and down to the solenoid? This would be the common scenario. If so, the inlet needle in the carb needs to be replaced, and the carb cleaned.
