Stupid question-do I NEED a window screen on a window I rarely open?? I bent a screen taking it out. I do have mosquitoes or something that bites my legs at night. Does the screen offer additional protection over a closed window??

That's what screens are for - to keep bugs out. You don't need one with a closed window, but you need one if you open the window.
