Hey everyone:

I am making a large frame for a poster that we got at a John Fogetry Concery this year. The frame is made of Tiger Wood and in the middle is Paduka, which is a red hard wood. My problem is the red dust from the Paduka is getting into the open pores of the Tiger Wood while sanding. :wall: I plan on using a wiping oil as a finish and do not want red tinted Tiger Wood. I tried cleaning with Laquer Thinner but it did not remove the red dust from inside the pores of the Tiger Wood. So, what do I do when I am finished sanding to get all the red dust out of the Tiger Wood before finishing with 3-4 coats of finish?

Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions and take care

With difficult jobs, I try to cover all bases. I first wipe with lacquer thinner, then paint thinner, then alcohol. One of those will usually get at least some of the problem out, and alcohol will remove my fingerprints.

I'd blow the wood dust off with an air nozzle and air compressor.

Just a thought...is it possible to just sand the tiger wood to completion...put on a sealer to keep the red dust out and then when dry, sand the paduka...I've used paduka on couple of projects and know that red dust sucks...

Hey again:

Thanks for the additional suggestions!

As far as sanding the Tiger Wood and then sealing.. Would be a major pain in the *** as it has a piece of the Tiger Wood that is 3/4" wide on bnoth sides and teh Paduka is only 3/8" wide... Kinda like a sandwitch if you know what I mean?

Anyway, I will try the air hose tomorrow after I finish sanding.

Thanks again and everyone take care

Make sure there's no water or oil in your air compressor bottle.
