looking at 52" lcd tvs, what do dynamic and true contrast ratios mean?
dynamic, i've seen 30000:1, 15000:1, and 10000:1
true, i've seen 3000:1, 2000:1

I'm not going to get technical here. It's basicly how black the dark parts of the picture are compared to how white the bright parts of the picture are.
The numbers only mean something when comparing sets from the same manufacterer. The bigger the better. But only when comparing the same brand.
Your best bet is to find a set that makes a picture that YOU like.
Also ,I would go into the menu and reset the picture controls to different presets.IE movie, sports, games ect..;)

Dynamic means it changes with the ambient light in the room and other factors. True is a static setting, which means set it once and live with everything in the room from sunshine to 3am.
That spec is meaningless marketing hype. All but the cheapest TVs have those functions.
