I have an old lennox central air unit(from the 60's or 70's) setting next to my driveway. It sets up against the house in the corner where the garage is attached. Its an eyesore!! It broke last spring and found out last fall that it was going to cost about 500 to fix "IF" they made the parts. That is what the repair guy said. It was the compressor if I recall. Anyway we decided to just not even fix it. We have 3 window units and it cools the house down just as good as the central air unit did. Anyway, is there a way for me to cut the lines and get rid of it??? I know the electrical I could cut but what about the other lines?? I have the elec. disconnected at the box. Thanks

The electrical is one thing, simple enough to disconnect with some respect for electricity itself. However, the refrigerant lineset is something you as a homeowner cannot do - you must have special expensive tools and an EPA certification to work on that side of the system. Simply get a technician to come out, and he will recover the refrigerant so you can disconnect and dispose properly of the unit. Releasing the refrigerant into the atmosphere (venting) is illegal.

Releasing the refrigerant into the atmosphere (venting) is illegal because it disintegrates our earths protective ozone layer. Less civilized countries do it anyway because they don't care or don't understand.
