I have just finished installing new drywall and is taped and mudded. I wanted to lightly texture it and I didn't want to rent a compressor and hopper for the blow-in, knockdown look. In that case, would you use a ready mix (if they make it) compound applied with a texture roller or can you just texture using the paint only, with a texture roller? Its a small bath. thanks, jim

Most paints alone do very little to add texture. Most textures can be made using thinned down joint compound [it is ready mix] The more you thin the j/c the lighter the texture will be. You can experiment on cardboard or even the wall itself - if you don't like it on the wall, scrape it off while wet or sand it off when dry.

You can texture with a roller but it's harder to controll than spray. Attention needs to be paid to appyling it evenly and basically it all needs to be rolled in the same direction to make it uniform. I don't know that you can get much of a knock down look with a roller.

Jim...Behr makes a paint called SandWash...I've used it in 2 bathrooms and been real happy with it. Not a heavy texture but enough to notice. Although it comes in several colors, the wife wanted different color in upstair bath...no problem...used SandWash for texture then painted over with Aqua that wife wanted. HD sells it. But like any paint the drywall joints need to be finished and primed or imperfections will telegragh through.
