I was wondering if anyone knows of a hardware device that can be attached to a home computer that will activate a program via a relay switch from a vista15. What i would like to do is when i activate my alarm system from my keyfob there would also be a relay to activate a computer program that would start to record the surveillance cameras?

Hmmm, I'm sure that there is a way to do what you want, but I will shift this thread to the home automation forum, which is really what you are after.

Most modern DVR's have a trip input that allows a relay to
start it to record. If your using your computer with a video
card, check with the manufacturer of the video card
to see if it has the same type of input. I would guess
that it might have a terminal on it for a dry closure
and when it sees a short, the system will start to record?
