Hello,

I am insulating a 4 season porch floor which is 6 feet off the cement ground on pillars. I live in the Northeast where it is cold in winter and damp in Summer.

I'm using R38 batts and tyvek homewrap and plywood. Should i have the paper on the batts facing against or away from the floor? Should i use tyvek homewrap underneath the batts to protect from moisture and wind?

How should I go about dong this?

Thanks,
doug

Depending on the size of your joisting, the R38 is fine. Place it so the vapor barrier is facing the living space. Stretching the Tyvek under it is fine, but so "unfinished". A good strong Nor'easter may pull it loose. Consider the Tyvek and 3/8" plywood with battens over the cracks.

Thanks Chandler,

Took the chance and did exactly what you said. The batts are tight up in the joists, tyvek is strechted as far as it can stretch adn stapled in and most of the PT plywood is up and snug against each other. The current floor is a subfloor and will have a lock together floor on top (forgot the real name of it :thinker: ). It came together better than I thought it would. Lucky I tarped the plywood, cuz it rained this morning. So now that it dryed out I can start again. The house is a raised ranch with a concrete slab under it so I don't think that it will get too damp.

Thanks for your comment. Much appreciated. Have a good long weekend!
