It's been a banner summer for raccoons rummaging around our property. Last night it got its feet good and greasy from the drip pan on the grill, and paraded across our solid-stained deck multiple times. One portion of the deck is a golden yellow (think California hillsides in summer), while the majority of it is "licorice" color from Olympic, which is a very dark green. The greasy footprints are everywhere. We're planning to re-stain the deck this fall, after cleaning it but not removing the old surface. I tried a quick solution of dish detergent this morning, but no results. I've seen suggestions online to use turpentine, Simply Green, automotive grease remover, Cabot deck cleaner, mineral spirits, Goo Gone, even Coca Cola or salt. Any other suggestions? Or any idea which of this litany may be most effective and least destructive of the solid stain finish? Thanks, Jason

i would think simply green or an automotive cleaner should work without hurting the stain.
