I hired a electrician to install 6 recessed lights and have them hooked up to a dimmer switch. The recessed lights are made by Juno and the bulbs are Philips 65w flood lights.

When on full light, they are wonderful. When they are dimmed, they make this awful humming noise  . The electrician swapped the dimmer with another style dimmer switch made by Lutron and it still hums

He told me this is normal :wall:

The buzzing can be caused by the filaments vibrating. Try another brand bulb and see if it goes away.

From the Lutron FAQ site.

I will suggest what PCboss saying try diffrent brand name bulb somecase it will useally clear up and elemated the buzzing noise.

Useally Lurton dimmers are good brand and I don't have much issue with them.

Merci,Marc

At least your problem is plausible. I have to go into a house on Friday to tell the schizophrenic, bi-polar, owner that the slight hum in his construction grade fan is normal. Gosh I love this job! I agree with the Lutron dimmer. They don't seem to give the same problems.

What would be a good bulb to replace the Philips 65w with?

Here is what I am using now

Philips is a good brand. Try one of their regular-life bulbs rather than this long-life bulb. If you use the dimmer, the bulb will have a long life even without the long life bulb.
