I have two 2-way floodlights on either front corners of my house. I used 12/2 romex to tie into my existing front door lights after removing fixtures. Why do the lights burn out within four to five months.

Four or five months!! That's probably all you are entitled to. Look at the package to see how many hours of operation you're supposed to get.

These are supposed to be 6000 hours bulb. Does this sound right. I'm also wanting to ad dusk/dawn sensor. How do I put it in between or in front of these lights.

The question is how did they arrive at the 6000 hours? I had a bublb that was supposed to be a 2 year bulb. They burned out in 2-3 months. The rsted life was for 4 hours max per day. Unfortunately winter usage here is about 12 hours per day.

It would also depend on how often the bulb is switched on and off.

Some of the 6000 hour bulb life rating it will very depent on the voltage rating if it was on 130 volts { alot of system do run about 120 to 127 volt and they do rise a little during nite time } or 120 v bulb rating

so let clear up little details here

use the 120v bulb the affections are :

Slightly under 120 volts it will last longer useally 30% range longer. { and it will be little dimmer }

Slightly over 120 volts you will shorten the life about the same way as undervoltage is.{ it will be little more brighter }

Now here a trick with 130 volts bulb the life do last much longer on 120 volt useally almost double but if your supply voltage is very close to 130 volts the life will be pretty close to normal.

But there other factor it can affect the life of the indsentent bulbs

Viberation is useally #1 killer

Overvoltage is close #2 killer

that the two most common cuprit
