I had a Kenmore Water Softener 350 series installed about 4 months ago. I was outside and heard the unit running then I thought to myself, its not set to regenerate till 2am. As I walked over to the unit, the grass was drenched from the water softner itself out to about 10ft feet. Water was pretty much going from the water line through the softener and strait out the drain.
I immediately pushed the bypass to turn the water flow off. I went to check my water meter and the little triangle is not spinning, once I put the bypass back, the triangle on the meter was spinning like crazy!
I contacted the plumber who sears had do the install and he pretty much said its not an install issue but more of the unit itself not stopping the draining process when it is supposed to. I tried unplugging the power and water is still flowing through it and out the drain pipe. I had held down the Regenerate button then it started the process, water stopped flowing out of the drain and the water in the brine tank started to drain (water level was about 6 inches above salt level, I still unplugged it and pushed the bypass back so water won't just run out again.
I am pretty sure its not an install problem but the unit itself.
Could someone help me understand why it is doing this?
Thanks in advance for any feedback

Water softeners go through series of cycles to "regenerate". Sounds as through it is stuck in a cycle. Try this link http://www.kenmorewater.com/website/animations/product-animation/ts_index.

Is it possible the time of day setting is just off on the timer? The whole regeneration does take some time. (generally 2 hrs).
You may know it's not 2 am but all the water softener knows is what the timer says. Any power outages lately? check the time of day setting. and try another regeneration and see if it finishes up within 2 hours. TJ:thumbup:
