A natural pond or a 'lined" pond??
This will make a big difference and we'll be able to point you in the right direction.

check with your state fisheries dept or the local ag extension office they will more than likely have some good handouts.

We did a 2 acre bass pond a few years back. I came across pondboss.com and went to the forum section. There is a incredaible cross section of pond aficinado's with a deep knowledge of large ponds. I've never had any products or magazines pushed at me, either. Good Luck!!

Your local Cooperative Extension Agent can help you get started with installing a large pond. They may refer you to the Department of NaturaL Resources.
In doing so, you will be assured that you are building a pond that meets state standards and poses no threat to watershed and potential problems. You will receive info on soil testing, recommended pond lining, location, aeration, overflow, etc. Pond management info is crucial to a successful pond. You may also need a permit for a large pond.

Ditto to consulting with state and local authorities re: requirements and permits is the place to begin. Doing your homework first can prevent future problems.
You will want to locate the pond in the best location on your property so that you can take advantage of water source and have adequate spillway. You will want to meet with professionals on your property before making any decisions. There are pond building engineers and contractors who can guide you.
