Got a real brain buster and you are a smart bunch of guys...

On the edge of my deck I obviously have the ACQ treated 'rim joists'. Wondering what I can put on them to make them look nicer. Here is what I've rule out so far:

- painting is ok, but then I'll see the bolt heads, etc.
- can't use the white aluminum flashing b/c it corrodes when touching ACQ
- Hardie lap boards aren't tall enough
- Hardie sheets won't have a clean cut line (even with my shears) - plus I haven't seen them without the 12" grooves in them

I'm wondering about using the hardie sheets, but aligning the groove lines vertically. Unfortunately I can't cut them without industrial respirators. Well maybe I could.

Any thoughts? TIA for your insights!!!

Yep, it's a deck, not the Taj Mahal, let it be a deck. Trying to cover the rim joists will probably make it look too bulky, and will look overbuild. Stain it and paint the heads of the carriage bolts with a closely complimentary paint.

My product of choice to wrap framing, rim joist, etc... is an Azec type of product. Looks great, paint/no paint, and maintenance free. You just have to build accordingly to the extra 3/4" it adds to the frame.

I have a 3/4" overlap of teh decking... is this a sheet product? I have to cover 2x14s...

Thanks!

It's actually sold in 4x8 sheets also. Out of curiousity, what type of framing did you use? I've never heard of a 2x14, unless it was a LVL, I-joist or something manufactured.
