I cannot seem to get my ceiling fan wired correctly so the light and fan will work. So far I have not been able to get either to work. This is a non-switched outlet that has a red, black, and white wire and a bare ground wire. My new fan has a blue, white, black wire and then two ground wires. One ground on the fan base and one on the fan chassis. So far every conncetion I have tried does not work. The main connection I tried was blue to red, black to black, white to white and both grounds attached to the bare ground wire. The old fan was connected this way but it only had one ground. I tested the fan on a light outlet from another room and it worked. I used the light I removed to try to test the fan outlet and it did not work. I used a 110/220 tester on the fan outlet and it did light up as the red and black wires are hot. Do I just not have something connected correctly or is this something I should have an electrician look at? What can I use to test the outlet to make sure the current is strong enough?

Your initial connections sounded correct. However, your wiring sounds like it was set up controlled by 2 switches.

How did you ascertain that the black and red were hot? Where did you take your measurements, between what wires?

I used the 110/220 tester to determine the wires were hot by testing those individually against the ground and neutral white. The tester lights up but when I hook a regular overhead light up it doesn't.

Sound like a very marginal connection somewhere. Make sure all the wire nuts are tight.
