I have an OLD Sargent entry doorknob I am trying to remove. I am guessing it is from the 50's or 60', but could be older. I loosened the face plate to reveal the metal, threaded pipe holding the knobs together. It is heavy metal, and there are no screws anywhere in sight. The pipe has a small hole in it, but I've pressed an awl in there, and nothing happens. What should I do now? Do I have to saw through the pipe?
Thanks, Barbara

Welcome to the forums foxbrachmann!
Makes sure the faceplate is as loose as it will go. Do you see a wire? This needs to pushed down which depresses a hidden knob retainer.
