Ok, I know I am in the wrong forum but 53XBR43 messages are all in 2007! I would like to hear from Craftsman_50 (or anyone) on my problem! My 53" rear projection TV is starting to take about 5-10 mins for the picture to appear. The audio comes on immediately but, the picture takes ~aprox 5-10 mins. I know that audio is low voltage and video is high voltage
but I do not have schematics or more importantly the knowledge of where to begin to fix this problem! I had 6 months of BW/Color TV instruction but that was a LONG time ago...

OK! This get an idea of whats happening. If you turn the set off after the picture has come on and then turn it back on immediately, does the picture come right back on or do you have to wait all over again?
Also you might remove the speaker grill, then remove the 4 screws holding a cover panel in place. You should be able to see the bottom of the CRTs.What you want to look for is a glow from the bottom of the CRTs.That the fillaments. If its dusty you may have to dust the dirt off with a small paint brush.Make sure you do this with the power OFF.There is a lot of high voltage on those boards!
Plug the tv in and turn it on.Watch for the glow.It should start immediately when power is turned on.
Post back and let me know what you observe.;)

The TV video takes 5-10 mins to come on from a cold start and from a HOT restart after it has been on. I watched the bottom of the CRT tubes after a hot restart and the filaments heated up almost immediately. The boards at the bottom of the 3 CRT tubes have some dust hanging from them and I will clean that off.

Well I cleaned up the bottom of the CRTs and in the back I vacuumed off the E-board and the High Voltage transfomer. I vacuumed and brushed up all the dust I could reasonably get at without doing damage. The TV video came on pretty normally this time from cold (~5 secs after audio). But after 15 mins I powered off and back on and it went back to the 5-10 minute wait. Sometimes cycling power off/on a couple of times gets the video back on.

Do you have any test equipment to work with?If so let me know what you have and we will go from there.

It just came to me after rereading your last post, that if it worked after cleaning the circuit boards, you might have a cold solder connection.Leave the back off and try applying a slight presure on different parts of the circuit boards and see if the picture comes back on.I'm thinking the "D" or "E" board.
I see your an elect. tech. so you should be ok around a tv.

I knew better than to put all of those 40 screws back in! I swear a screw salesman is giving a kickback to a Sony Engineer! I have several VOMs and that is it. But I do have access to oscilloscopes and amp clamps, etc... from my workplace and I can bring them home. I am hoping it doesn't get to the O-scope level !!!
I will be going to the lake tomorrow and then back to work Sunday so my posts may slow down for a few days... but stay with me as I am very appeciative of your help!!!
