I'm installing pre-finished solid hardwood floor (for the first time) in my kitchen/living room which is basically a square (23'x21'). I have two places where I need to install a stair nose, and one place where I need a threshold piece to transition into a tiled laundry area. How do I begin the installation?

My plan is to measure about 12" off from each end of one wall and then chalk a line. I would then begin laying planks from this chalk line until I get to the end of the room. Then I would finish the 12" or so including the stair nose piece.

Is it better to start with the stair nose piece? Ensure that the stair nose piece is straight with the opposite wall and then begin laying planks from that piece?
