I am replacing my keyed lock on the door from garage to kitchen. I had a kwikset and am replacing with a simialar kwikset lock. The problem when I screw the knob snug it doesn't work, won't even lock, when I loose the screws that hold the knob in it works perfectly but the knob is way to loose. I do I remedy this?

The knobset spindle is binding on the latch mechanism.

You probably need to first remove the screws in the latch mechanism (edge of door), partially tighten the connecting screws, keep testing. When it is suitably tight enough, refit the latch screws. I think the latch mechanism is probably twisted.
