Don't know if this should go here or in Electronic Alarms & Home Security forum..but here goes:
I have been researching solar security lights with a separate solar panel and the longest wire/cable is about 15 feet.
I need a 40 foot wire between the light and the solar panel. Can I buy some wire and splice it in?
If yes, should I buy a larger gauge wire as perhaps the additional length will degrade the charging efficiency?
Any comments or suggestions most welcome.

The charging efficiency is a function of the quality and size of the solar panel. and the amount of light hitting it.
Forty feet of wire should be no problem. You could jump the wire up one size, but there should be little resistance in forty feet.

I'm sure its not an issue, but where is the day/night sensor? It may not be just a 2 wire cable connection between the 2 units. Just wondering...

It works just fine to extend the wires out to 40'.
