Water Softeners and Air Filtration Systems - Brine/draw cycle question

Folks, I have a question in regards to actual duration of draw/brine cycle. I am installing a new Greensand filter w/ 7000 control head. I am to the point that I want to soak the new media(Greensand) w/ the potasium solution. The control head is currently set for a sixty minute cycle for this phase. My question is how long does the actual draw of potasium take from the tank? I wouldn't think that this should take sixty minutes to accomplish, should it? After twenty minutes of this cycle, I am still getting the sound of water rushing through the control head and out through the drain. I want to be able to unplug the control head and let the media soak w/ the potasium for the four to eight hour period but I want to make sure I get all the potasium it can. Sorry for the long winded post!

The 60 minute cycle is for regenerate draw AND rinse time included. There is freeboard or an area without mineral near the top of the tank. It will take some time for the potassium permanganate to actually reach even the top portion of greensand, much less go through it and empty to drain. Even though it may only take 5 minutes or less to actually draw the potassium permanganate in to the unit, it may take 20 or more minutes to actually see it coming out of the drain line after it has passed through the bed of greensand. And another 30 minutes to totally rinse it off until it is clear to the drain. The noise you here is the flow of raw water through the injector assembly which created the vacuum in the first place to draw the regenerate from the tank and is now using the same nozzle flow to slowly rinse it from the unit. That is why that cycle is 60 minutes. I’m not sure why you would want to leave it in the tank anyway to soak. As with most water treatment equipment, "kinetic" energy (an adjective) meaning with movement, is needed for the chemical process to occur. If you wanted to though just unplug the unit AND bypass it when you start to see purple water coming to the drain. Then wait. When your ready plug the unit back in and turn the unit back on line and let it continue the slow rinse and final rinse stages. Good Luck TJHornet :thumbup:
