I have 2 bedroom windows that need dressing. 63" drapes are too short and barely hit the sill. 84" drapes go to the floor. But since I have baseboard heat, they're too long. I have seen pics of tab top and rod pocket drapes hung far above the window and onto the wall. It looks nice. But I want to also hang sheers. Will it then look foolish? What about a valance? I would prefer not having to shorten them. Have there been discussions here as to what others have done? I looked back and found nothing. All ideas are appreciated! Thanks, Norma

As long as they're not electric heaters you can hang floor length panels. I'm not crazy about short panels unless they're in a kitchen, bathroom or kid's rooms. I'd rather see shades or blinds, with or without a valance. However, it's perfectly acceptable to have them short. What length are your windows and walls? 63" is usually long enough to hang on an average size window.
Sheers are often paired with draperies and do not look funny. You can hang them on a separate rod underneath or hang a double rod. If you're not planning on closing them you can even hang the sheers on the same rod.
Oh, if you go with tab tops, then get tab top sheers and if you get rodpockets then get rodpocket sheers. If you want to close them at times, then get panels that hang from rings because neither tab tops or rodpockets will open and close easy.
A valance is a preference thing. It looks fine with or without. Three layers tend to have a more formal look, if that helps.
There are so many options, it's hard to advise without knowing more about what your needs are and what function they'll serve, or what your taste and style is.
I would suggest you look thru some magazines or decorating books if you can, for lots of ideas. Also go to JC Penney's website and Better Homes and Gardens website. Both have lots of window treatment pics.
