i have a room that is a taupe colour and darker brown couches, along with some leather furniture and some wood things around the room, just wondering if anyone had any ideas for nice colours to mix with this, the floors are wood too maybe a rug or some throw pillows would add some colour to the room? is orange or red too much? im a young guy and i like the modern look.

any help would be apprieciated.

Any other color in there? I'd go with red too. Any windows? Curtains? Drapes? Blinds? What color? I don't think red is un-guylike. I think it's pretty cool and I like the modern look as well.

Definitely pillows (red-IMO, or some sort). Definitely some pictures in frames that would match with the pillows or some cool paintings. Also, maybe some vases or types of statues. Can you post a pic?

I'm sure others will help you out better so keep checking back.

The most colorful accessories are the two photos above the couch. (BTW, lower then to above 6" above back of sofa. They should be viewed from sitting position.) The colors in the photos are dramatic oranges, reds, and yellows. Any one or combination of these colors could be used for color inspiration for pillows, rug, and other accessories and accents.
The advantage of the neutral colors is that an area rug, as long as it picks up one or more of the colors in the photos, can add a large, dramatic splash of color. Red, yellow, and orange (mixture of red and yellow) will always provide a warm and successful color scheme. The complementary colors are neither age nor gender specific.
