After 3 weeks of intense research I am completely confused. What floor system is best for the following situation? I have a two level basement, lower level will be a carpeted movie theater all below grade with concrete floor. Upper basement level is 3 steps up from lower level and is currently carpeted on 3/4 OSB that's laid on top of concrete. This level is below grade on one wall only and has windows on three sides and a door that are on ground level. No apparent moisture issues. I want to install either solid or engineered bamboo flooring here. This will be a bar/game room. The bar which I plan to build will be somewhat heavy as is a combo cheapie pool/air hockey table. The room is 500 sq. ft. I do not want to glue down and would like to avoid glue joints on a floating floor. Prefer to staple or float. Been told solid bamboo is okay and not okay. Been told floating floors aren't good for heavy items as mentioned above. Been told staples may not hold in OSB. Cheapest option is to staple solid bamboo to OSB. More expensive option is to float or staple engineered floor to OSB or add layer of 3/8 plywood. What do you all suggest, one of these options or something else? I'm ready to give up and leave the crappy carpet.
