The paver walkway I constructed last year has black algae or something staining about 30% of the sand lines between the paver bricks - all in one area of the walk. I used concrete pavers and polymeric sand (bricks set in lime sand with 6" compacted paver base below).

Any advice on how to kill / clean / remove this black stuff without harming the bricks would be appreciated.

this link from the paver institute indicates bleach and a stiff bristled brush may be a good starting point. I will try it and report back on how it goes.

Well, this is turning into more of a blog than a forum post, but I used a stiff scrub brush and a 1:3 bleach:water solution to scrub down the polymeric sand. Worked immediately and effectively without damage to the concrete pavers. Grass suffered no ill effect

next up.
