This condo is over 30 years old...one unit on top of the other (use to be apartments) with no access above the bathrooms. Have to replace the bath fan/heat fixtures in both bathrooms. They are the OLD type with 2 heat lamps & a teeny-tiny fan between the two bulbs and a steel cover, can't even locate the brand. There is a timer on the wall for the heat lamps, but the fan comes on (loudly) with the light. Can this location be adapted to the newer efficient & quiet fan units, and what do I do with the timer switch? I would rather not have the heat lamps--just a really good quiet fan. Is it possible to hook the fan up to the timer switch rather than the light switch as most are now? Should I just hire an electrician because of the age of the unit being replaced & limited working area?
