This is our bathroom that we are currently trying to remodel, we would like to put in recessed lights but the section of the ceiling is close to the edge of the roof, and it has insulation as well
http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/61186/dsc01548.jpg
my issue is what recessed light to use.. From what I've read the remodel type recessed light can't be near insulation, and the style that can be put near insulation has to be mounted to the joist..Is this correct?
I don't think I have enough room to go into the attic at that location to install the fixtures needed..
Do I have any other options to get recessed lighting in this area?
the other issue was possibly putting in a exhaust fan, again space in the attic maybe an issue when trying to run the vent tube but I'm not really sure since this is my first dabble in renovating..
any advise would be much appreciated..

There are recessed cans that can be surrounded with insulation materals.
But how much room you have from the ceiling to the roof line ?
Most remodel cans useally are about 6 to 8 inches deep depending on what model and type and yes there are some shallow remodel cans that can fit in the 2X6 cavity.
I don't think you will have major issue with exhaust fan itself but the discharge pipe that something it can be little tricky to get down to the soffet otherwise thru the roof exhaust fan vent do work that way as well.
{ a quick question is this a moduar home ?? }
Merci,Marc

No the house is not modular,
I just measured the distance from the hole you see in the ceiling to the roof and I got 16 inches.. so I figure I have about 10 inches to work with at the point I would like to place the lights.
So I should be able to fine remodel style recessed lights that are insulation friendly?
the type of insulation is the paper backed fiberglass, would I just push it up using the can need light or do I need to cut a hole in it for the can to go through

That should have plenty room for remodel cans to work around most recessed cans are typically are 6 to 8 inch deep { tall } depending on which manufacter and set up it will have and make sure you have airtight verison with IC as well it should be pretty common type.
As far for the exhaust fan I recalled there are some remodel verison on market but normally I useally installed new work verison due most of the time I can get in the attic or scuttle the hole for it and repatch the drywall when I get done with it.
A quick tip for ya get a steel coat hanger and make a little rod so you can poke a hole and turn the rod around to check any obstrction if you can't see it.
But as far I did see the photo you have small section is allready open so you can use that opening to see where the stud and other items line up so you can able plan it pretty good.
Make sure you use metal fexiable or soild ductwork for discharge port from the fan { many local code normally reqired soild ductwork so that way the moistore dont build up on low spot of the pipework and pitched down a little so that way any condestion can slide down to outside unless you are going thru the roof that little diffrent }
As far for add new light and receptale in bathroom the code is pretty strict on this.
