Hello,
Here is my problem. I have a new 52 inch 5 blade hunter fan that I am trying to install. I removed the old one and did not verify the lighting before disassembly. The wall receptacle has a Round switch and the regular toggle swith. The Round switch controls the fan speed (Off/Slow/Med/Fast). My problem is that the Hunter fan only has 4 wires coming from it. The green, White, Black, and Black/White wires. The ceiling wires are 5 wires. The ground, 2 white and 2 black. Not sure what to do, this is how I wired it. All 3 white together. The green and ground together, and one black from the ceiling with the black (fan) and the other black from the ceiling with the black/white from the fan. Needless to say, this was wrong because the outcome was that the toggle switch does not work by itself, in other words I need to flip it on and also need to turn up the round switch in order to get the light or the fan to work. The speed of the fan can only be changed by the chain on the fan as the round switch does not change it. How do I correct this? I would rather find out before I make any further attempts. Thank you.
Lou

Chance are you have a switch loop.

Did you describe the old switch or the new switch? Are the "round switch" and the "regular toggle switch" part of one assembly?

If you continue to randomly experiment, you stand a very good chance of burning out your wall control (if you haven't done so already).
