I am trying to convert the light in my office in my house to a ceiling fan. The house was recently built in 9/2005. I can't find how to remove the light fixture. There are no screws or hardware that releases it from the ceiling. This leaves me to believe that it must be removed from the attic. However the attic is full of insulation in the area where the light hardware would exist. Can I walk on the insulation or will the crushing of the insulation deminish the effects of the insulation?

Theres probably a trim ring that needs to be pulled down first...but I'm sure someone else may have a better idea. What kind of fixture is there now? Hanging lamp? Flush mount? Recessed can style?

Don't walk on the insulation! It will crush down and you may put a foot thru the ceiling! You may have to get up there eventually, but not yet.

BTW, if that isn't a fan rated electrical box above the light, yer in for a bit of work replacing it.

As Gunguy said, we need a better description of the fixture. Although I can pretty much promise you that it can be removed from below somehow.

Don't walk around in your attic unless you only step on structural members. Otherwise, you'll be facing a trip to the hospital after you fall through the ceiling.

It is flush mount. Im sure if I could get the trim rim down it might reveal something but I have no idea how to get it down. Any advice?
I am aware that I should only walk on the portion of the attic that is finished and believe me I would prefer not to do this. The insulation I am speaking of is the spray insulstion that is just used for extra insulation. If you can help prevent this at least until we know that the electric box is not suitable or that an anchor is necessary, it would be appreciated.

Thanks

When you say flush mount are you talking about someting like this?

If so these either pull down or have two springs that can be seen after you remove the bulb.

As pcboss says, just pull on it.
