I have two new window units just put in this spring. I get a bad musty smell from them when using just the fan. Need some advice on how to fix the problem?

You probably have some dirt or mold growth where the condensation water drips/on your evaporator coil. The solution is to clean out those areas, however I am not sure of the configuration of your window unit.
