MTD Model 13A16736088 20HP 42" 7spd rider. Just got this mower as a freebee. The rear wheels won't roll, just skid. Put it in neutral, Gears in any gear. Haven't got it started yet, as it needs a battery. What conditions would cause this problem. Regards, Jerry

The brake is probably stuck. Common on MTDs. Look on the side of the tranny at the brake lever and move it. If it releases, spray it a bit with lube and it should free up.
