I have a 35 year old tub with an enamel finish, "harvest gold". We have replaced toilet and sink with white fixtures and want to paint the tub. Has anyone ever done this successfully? What type primer and paint?

You can't "paint" a tub that will be used. You can have it refinished with an epoxy...expect maybe 5 yrs or so, if its used occasionally.

A better choice might be an acrylic insert that matches your tub profile. Depends on the company and the product.

Google tub inserts and bathtub refinishing

I agree that an insert is the way to go!
DIY tub painting has a poor track record - most start to peel in a few yrs
You can have it proffessionaly coated but an insert is cheaper and garuntteed not peel :D
