Hi Durok,

Sorry to hear this. You will probably have to live trap it or call a licensed wildlife control professional. Each state has different laws as to what you can do with them. This site has some ideas and is from Maryland.

Here's another site that might be helpful.

Groundhogs are herbivores (eat plants) so they tend not to eat traditional rat poisons unless you hide it in a watermellon or other tasty vegetable. If you are within city limits you might try a "have a heart" trap and then release the animal in the countryside while The Age of Aquarius (Hair) plays on your car stereo. If you are in the country I would use a shotgun with #4 shot.

I heard a rumor that Carl Spackler is available for extrermination work. :)

Personally, I'm with Pilot Dane, a shotgun or a .22 head shot depending on the situation.

It has to leave to eat. While it is gone block all entrance areas. When it comes back and sees the door locked, so to speak, it will realize it is not welcome and move on to someone else's shed.

That won't work with groundhogs. It will just dig another entrance to it's burrow. It sometimes works with skunks though.
