We just moved into a house that is just old,not 100 yr old fun old, I'm talking late 60's early 70"s. In one bedroom there is a ceiling fan already up, but I was shocked to see it on a regular dimmer switch.I thought you couldn't do that. Well now I also want to add a light to the fan. If the switch is ok, then I am ok with it. If not what do I need to buy to have it all running properly. PLEASE ADVISE!
Thank you
Kim

Fan speed control are made for motor loads and dimmers are not. Dimmers start out lower voltage which is hard on motor starting. Fan speed controls start out high and reduce for slower speeds.

At your switch box can you tell how many and the colors of wires? You may be able to have independant controls for your lights, or the speed control could effect the lights.
