Hi all, I have recently installed a fiberglass door in our house and when we picked it out, the salesman told me that I need to use gel stain on fiberglass. We told him at the time that we wanted to stain it black, and we were assured that was available, they just did not stock that color. Problem is, I cant seem to find any black gel stains anywhere. Is there any alternatives that I can use, or ways of tinting or mixing existing colors to get closer to black?
I have read that a black door is not good if its exposed to direct sunlight, but ours is on a front porch with a roof and isnt at any point in the sunlight.

Welcome to the forums!
You could mix oil base black paint with some varnish/poly and color it that way. Care must be used to apply it evenly! Lap marks or any heavy spots will be blacker.

It's not always the easiest to find but universal tint/colorant in lamp black would be a good way to blacken poly.Various hardware stores, paint stores and craft or hobby shops will carry it and I'd call around first. This would darken poly without significantly increasing the volume of material and likely could be added to a can without removing much if any.Adding paint means pouring both into a different container. If tint is difficult to locate though then paint will work just fine.
This would be an experiment either way so make sure you test until it's right and you make enough for the entire job at one time.
Black stain is often not referred to as "black".Usually some name like "ebony" is used so you might look for it that way. Also ebony stain isn't always a dark full black or takes several coats to get it there if that's what you want.
